MARINA Team Holds Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with PSP and Migrant Fishers in Pemalang

Pemalang, September 18, 2025 – The MARINA project team conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Pejuang Suara Pelaut (PSP) and migrant fishers (Awak Kapal Perikanan Migran / AKP Migran) at the PSP Secretariat, Pemalang Regency, Central Java, on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

The activity aimed to collect more detailed data and insights regarding the experiences and challenges faced by migrant fishers. Through this FGD, it is expected that comprehensive information can emerge to strengthen advocacy efforts, raise public awareness, and encourage the development of local regulations that better protect the rights of migrant fishers.

A PSP representative expressed appreciation for the initiative. “PSP hopes that what the MARINA team is doing will bring benefits to all parties, and that the planned development of the educational pocketbook, policy brief, and draft village regulation will run smoothly,” they stated.

Beyond exploring strategic collaboration, the discussion also highlighted key issues such as:

  1. Economic factors and working conditions of migrant fishers
  2. The role of government institutions in migrant fisher protection
  3. Village-level problems and the drafting of local village regulations (Raperdes)

This FGD marks an important step in fostering collaboration between seafarers’ organizations, migrant workers, and supporting stakeholders like MARINA. The synergy is expected to generate tangible contributions in advancing the rights and welfare of Indonesian migrant fishers.
