Debate School 2025 by BEM FISIP UNDIP Trains 50 Students to Master Bilingual Debate Techniques

Semarang, November 9, 2025 — The Research and Scientific Division of BEM FISIP Universitas Diponegoro successfully held the Debate School 2025 on November 8–9, 2025, at the PKM Hall of FISIP Universitas Diponegoro. This annual program aims to enhance the critical, analytical, and argumentative skills of FISIP Undip students through structured learning and debate practice in both Indonesian and English.

Carrying the theme “Sharpening Arguments in Two Languages,” Debate School served as an enriching learning platform that encouraged students to deepen their understanding of academic debate dynamics while strengthening their public communication skills. A total of 50 enthusiastic participants from various departments within FISIP Undip joined the two-day intensive training.

The program began with an interactive seminar featuring two inspiring speakers—Luthfatul Amanah and Kayla Fauziah Fajri—both distinguished students with extensive experience in university-level debating.

During the session, the speakers elaborated on the KDMI and NUDC debate formats, strategies for constructing logical arguments, and effective techniques for delivering persuasive public statements. Participants were also introduced to the roles within a debate team, such as Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition, and Rebuttal Speaker.

Following the material session, the event continued with sparring sessions, dividing participants into two tracks: Indonesian and English. These drills were designed to strengthen quik-thinking abilities and sensitivity to social and political issues reflected in the debate motions. The discussions were highly engaging, with participants exchanging ideas in an atmosphere of intellectual enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

A mock debate session followed, providing participants with a realistic experience akin to formal competitions. Each team received direct feedback from the speakers and committee facilitators to refine their argumentation techniques and rhetorical delivery. The activity concluded with a reflection session, offering space for participants to share their experiences, impressions, and key takeaways.

Debate School 2025 provided FISIP Undip students with an invaluable opportunity to deepen their logical reasoning, craft effective arguments, and express their opinions with confidence and respect. The event served as a platform for cultivating academic character and preparing students to take part in national and international debate competitions. Beyond critical thinking and communication skills, the program also strengthened collaboration among students across departments. The high level of enthusiasm demonstrated FISIP Undip’s commitment to fostering a dynamic academic environment focused on developing students’ capacities as future leaders.
