Semarang (25/8) – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Diponegoro University (Undip) is further strengthening its international presence by establishing an academic collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS), The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. The University of Queensland is currently ranked 42nd in the world by the QS rankings.
This collaborative program begins with the Bachelor of Communication Studies program, which will open a double degree scheme in 2026. Discussions will follow with a double degree collaboration for the Master of Communication Studies program. Furthermore, development plans will also focus on the Bachelor of Government Science program, based on proposals from partners and other programs at FISIP Undip.
The FISIP Undip delegation was represented by Dr. Phil. Nuriyatul Lailiyah, S.Sos., M.I.Kom. made an official visit to the UQ campus in Brisbane on August 20–21, 2025. Over the two days, the delegation held strategic meetings with UQ academic staff, from the Head of School and program convenor to international managers, to align curriculum, credit transfer, and joint research opportunities.

This collaboration also holds deep symbolic significance. Queensland is a sister province of Central Java, while Brisbane is a sister city of Semarang. Therefore, this collaboration is not simply an academic agreement, but part of strengthening educational and cultural diplomacy between the regions.
On the second day of the visit, the Diponegoro University (Undip) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) delegation was welcomed by Professor Heather Zwicker, Executive Dean of HASS (Undip University of Social and Political Sciences). During the meeting, Prof. Zwicker received a gift set from the Dean of FISIP Undip, including the FISIP’s signature orange jacket. With great enthusiasm, Prof. Zwicker immediately donned the jacket and sent an official UQ souvenir to the Dean of FISIP as a token of friendship.
In addition to UQ, FISIP Undip is also preparing similar collaborations with PECS University (Hungary) and Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines). In this way, Undip FISIP students will be able to choose more than one international partner campus for the double degree program.
