Semarang (02/08) – In an effort to strengthen the capacity of local film communities and bolster Indonesia’s creative industry, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro organized the International Community Service 2025, titled “Documentary Film Production for Local Film Communities.” The program aimed to equip participants with technical and conceptual skills in documentary filmmaking while broadening their understanding of film as a medium for education and community empowerment.

The event was officially started on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with opening remarks from the Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., and the Head of the Department of Communication Science, Dr. Agus Naryoso, S.Sos., M.Si. The program featured Dr. Dag Yngvesson, an international documentary filmmaker and academic with extensive experience in community-based film production. Over three consecutive days, Dag conducted an intensive workshop covering all stages of documentary production—pre-production, production, and post-production.

The second and third days focused on hands-on filmmaking and editing, where participants applied the theories they had learned. The event was attended by junior high school students, high school students, university students, and members of Semarang’s film communities, fostering dynamic collaboration between academics, practitioners, and the public.

In addition to technical training, the program included interactive discussions on the challenges and opportunities in Indonesia’s documentary film industry. Participants explored how film can serve as a tool to highlight social issues and empower local communities. They were also given the opportunity to present and discuss their assigned documentary projects.

Beyond enriching participants’ skills, the program strengthened networking among Semarang’s film communities. Through this initiative, FISIP Undip reaffirmed its commitment to advancing community-based creative industries while opening doors for broader international collaboration.
