Semarang (31/07) — Optimism is the essential fuel for navigating the dynamic and uncertain post-campus life. This was one of the key messages resonating throughout the 179th Graduation Ceremony (Day 2, Session 1) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the FIMENA Auditorium, Building A, 3rd Floor, Tembalang. In a warm and meaningful atmosphere, the prospective graduates were encouraged to maintain an optimistic spirit as they embark on a new chapter in their lives.
The Day 2 Session 1 ceremony was attended by 125 prospective graduates from the Department of Communication Science, consisting of 12 Master of Communication Science candidates and 113 Bachelor of Communication Science candidates. In her academic report, the Vice Dean for Resources, Ika Riswanti Putranti, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., highlighted that Communication Science was one of the study programs with the highest number of students selected for the prestigious Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program.
Beyond presenting academic data, Ika Riswanti concluded her report with a poignant monologue titled “God is Not Always Mysterious but Also Humorous.” With a witty yet touching delivery, she illustrated that the university journey is far from the smooth narrative depicted in campus brochures—instead, it resembles a game of Mobile Legends, filled with challenges, obstacles, and “unregistered courses” such as disappointment, delays, and navigating dynamics with lecturers. “God, You truly have a way. So casual, yet so profound,” she remarked. She emphasized that these experiences shape resilience and patience, which are crucial assets in life. She also urged graduates to continue being individuals who bring meaning to others.
In her speech, Widwiningrum Subandoro, a student representative from the Bachelor of Communication Science program, asserted that university life is not just about theory but also about character building, voicing ideas, and honing social sensitivity. “Having good grades is important, but attitude will speak louder,” she firmly stated. She also encouraged fellow graduates to uphold integrity and maintain a passion for learning in every step they take forward.
Meanwhile, Yogi Arief Nugraha, S.Sos., M.Si., father of Saskia Alifa Nugraha—a Communication Science student—delivered an uplifting message as a parent representative. In his inspiring speech, he reminded graduates to remain humble, uphold truth, and stay resilient in facing contemporary challenges, including digital disruption and artificial intelligence advancements. “Set aside your academic titles if they breed arrogance. Be noble individuals who remain humble yet confident,” he advised. He expressed hope that the graduates would realize their grand aspirations while keeping FISIP Undip grounded in noble values as it strives to become a world-class university.
The Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., also emphasized the importance of mentality and optimism in his address. He reminded attendees that post-campus life would be far more challenging than writing a thesis and stressed that optimism is the key to overcoming difficult phases. “Success will come. If not today, perhaps next week. If not next week, maybe next month. If not this month, then next year,” he asserted, motivating the graduates. He also noted that FISIP Undip’s Communication Science program is currently one of the most sought-after programs nationally.
On this occasion, FISIP Undip also introduced 17 premium campus facilities as part of its commitment to supporting student learning and development. These include the FIMEL (FISIP International Madany Encouraging Library), Student Centre (PKM) Room, Outdoor Learning Facilities, Cafe FISIP, IKA FISIP Undip Co-Working Space, an International Standard Theater Room, and various learning laboratories.
The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt performance of the song “Ayah” (Father) by Dr. Teguh Yuwono, followed by a special appearance from lecturers of the Communication Science Department, adding warmth and joy to this farewell moment. A mix of emotion and pride filled the room, marking the end of a significant phase in the prospective graduates’ lives and the beginning of their journey toward meaningful contributions to society and the nation.
With optimism, integrity, and humility, the Communication Science graduates of FISIP Undip are now ready to leave their mark on the real world.
