Semarang (30/07) — Higher education is not merely about pursuing grades and degrees but also a long journey filled with challenges, disappointments, and social dynamics that shape character and resilience. This profound message was delivered by Ika Riswanti Putranti, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., Vice Dean of Resources at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Diponegoro, during the 179th Graduation Ceremony of FISIP Undip (Day 1, Session 2) held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the FIMENA Auditorium, Building A, 3rd Floor, Tembalang Campus.
This second session of Day 1 was attended by 159 prospective graduates from the Department of Public Administration and the Department of Political and Government Studies. According to the academic report presented by Ika Riswanti, the prospective graduates comprised 3 Ph.D. in Public Administration candidates, 10 Master of Public Administration candidates, 61 Bachelor of Public Administration candidates, 16 Bachelor of Public Administration (PSDKU Rembang Campus) candidates, 3 Ph.D. in Social Sciences candidates, 14 Master of Political Science candidates, 52 Bachelor of Government Studies candidates.
In a speech that balanced humor with depth, Ika Riswanti likened the academic journey to a complex process far removed from the glossy narratives of university brochures. She described it as a winding path akin to a Mobile Legends game, complete with “unregistered courses” such as disappointment, delays, and navigating challenging lecturers. She emphasized that these experiences, though difficult, forge stronger and more patient individuals. With wit, she concluded that God has a unique way of answering prayers—sometimes through group projects with the most “interesting” teammates. “God, You truly have Your ways. Calm yet impactful,” she remarked, urging graduates to remain kind individuals whose presence brings meaning to others.
A similar sentiment was echoed by Irna Febriyani, a graduating student representative from the Bachelor of Public Administration (PSDKU Rembang Campus). She expressed gratitude for the lessons learned during her studies, stating, “Every experience in college has taught us to think critically, logically, and with integrity.” She reminded her peers to prioritize physical and mental health, strengthen their faith, and appreciate those who supported them.
Meanwhile, Moh. Khoiri, representing Bachelor of Government Studies prospective graduates, reflected on his academic journey with profound insight. He compared university life to a fishpond and a birdcage—a space of challenges yet also growth and freedom within boundaries. “We learned that no hardship is insurmountable as long as we persevere and pray ceaselessly,” he said, encouraging fellow graduates to move forward with determination, faith, and a commitment to nation-building through knowledge.
A heartfelt address also came from Alwis Rustam, M.A., a parent representative and father of a Bachelor of Public Administration candidate. He stressed the importance of contribution, reputation, and networks in post-graduation life. “True contribution isn’t about wealth or power, but the daily good we do.” He also highlighted the need to maintain integrity, exercise self-control in the distraction-filled digital age, and uphold idealism as a guiding principle in societal roles.
Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., Dean of FISIP Undip, proudly announced the faculty’s achievements, noting that FISIP is now among Undip’s top five faculties ranked within the world’s top 500, with a target to break into the top 400 next year. He further highlighted that the Public Administration program ranks 1st nationally, while Political and Government Studies holds 2nd place (EduRank). “We must also improve our public services,” he asserted, expressing hope that these milestones would lay the foundation for even greater accomplishments.
As part of its commitment to academic excellence, FISIP Undip introduced 17 premium campus facilities during the ceremony, including FIMEL (FISIP International Madany Encouraging Library), Student Creativity Program (PKM) Room, Outdoor Learning Spaces, FISIP Café, IKA FISIP Undip Co-Working Space, International Standard Theatre Room, and Various specialized learning laboratories.
The ceremony concluded on an emotional note as the Dean, Dr. Teguh Yuwono, performed the song “Ayah” (Father), followed by performances from lecturers of the Public Administration and Political & Government Studies departments.
Through this graduation, FISIP Undip reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who excel not only academically but also emotionally, with high integrity and readiness to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
