Semarang, September 1, 2025 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held a Visiting Professor Program online featuring Prof. Shih Chih Chen from National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST), Taiwan, Monday (1/9). This event was initiated by the Expertise-Based Group (KBK) of Sustainable Business, Department of Business Administration FISIP, led by Prof. Bulan Prabawani, S.Sos., M.M.

In this program, Prof. Chen shared his experience through a workshop “From Inspiration to Publication: How Young Scholars Can Find and Complete High-Impact Research Topics” and guided a manuscript clinic session by directly reviewing two selected manuscripts from lecturers and postgraduate students. More than 20 participants actively took part in this activity.

In the workshop session, Prof. Chen emphasized that writing a scientific article should not begin with the introduction section. He suggested that writers first enrich the literature, formulate the main ideas, find the research gap, then prepare the research design and conceptual framework. According to him, the introduction should actually be written at the end after the discussion is completed. “I call this the reverse method, because the introduction is the most important part that must summarize the entire research as well as be the hook to attract reviewers,” he explained.

In addition to writing strategies, Prof. Chen also highlighted the trend of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific works. He stressed that students and researchers should use AI wisely, not as a substitute. “AI can help refine language and clarify writing, but it should not be used to generate research data,” he emphasized.

The enthusiasm of the participants was clearly visible, especially during the manuscript clinic. One of the doctoral students of the Social Sciences Program at FISIP UNDIP, Mrs. Chusnu, expressed her appreciation. “I am grateful to Prof. Chen for reviewing my manuscript. The input he provided is very useful for improvement before I submit it to a reputable journal,” she said.

The program coordinator, Ardy Wibowo, S.S.T., M.B.A., stated that the presence of Prof. Chen was very valuable for the UNDIP academic community. “He not only shared material but also opened opportunities for future research and publication collaboration,” he said. Through this Visiting Professor Program, FISIP UNDIP hopes to continue strengthening international academic cooperation, both through guest lectures, joint research, and the development of study programs that are more competitive at the global level.
