Semarang (20/08/2025) – An atmosphere of academic enthusiasm filled the Senate Meeting Room of FISIP Undip on Wednesday morning, August 20, 2025. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Diponegoro held an International Academic Writing Workshop, featuring Prof. Ward Berenschot, a political anthropology expert from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

This initiative was organized as part of FISIP Undip’s commitment to strengthening academic culture, where scientific writing is regarded as a crucial pillar of the institution’s reputation.

The Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., appreciated the brilliant idea initiated by the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Cooperation and his research cluster team.

“We warmly welcome these exceptional ideas due to their significant benefits for the Faculty and the Institution. Events like this mark the starting point for enhancing globally oriented academic writing capacity,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., provided profound motivation to the participants. He emphasized that academic writing is part of an academic’s untold story.

“Every academic has a story worth writing. Writing is our contribution to academic culture. Through writing, our narratives will live on, transcending space and time,” he asserted.

During the main session, FISIP researchers presented draft manuscripts covering strategic topics: gender issues, digital literacy, Indonesia’s foreign policy in BRICS, the phenomenon of political campaigns in the social media era, and local democracy dynamics.

Prof. Ward Berenschot, who expressed his delight in returning to FISIP Undip, provided general observations on the articles. He highlighted four key aspects to consider when writing for international publications: research readiness, adequate research funding, uniqueness of the theme, and perseverance in the face of rejection.

“Indonesia has incredibly interesting research. The challenge lies in presenting it in a way that is globally understandable and appreciated. Don’t give up if an article is rejected—it’s part of the academic journey,” said Prof. Berenschot.

This workshop not only enhanced writing skills but also reinforced FISIP Undip’s position as a faculty seriously committed to building international academic networks. (Rif’at – FISIP Public Relations)
