Semarang, August 5, 2025 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, proudly hosted the 10th International Conference on Indonesian Social and Political Enquiries (ICISPE) on August 5–6, 2025. Since its inception, ICISPE has grown into a premier global academic forum, connecting scholars, researchers, policymakers, and professionals in exploring pressing social and political issues within a dynamic international context.
This year’s theme, “Fostering Collaborative Synergies: Advancing Environmental Governance through the Harmony of Public-Private Sector and Society to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals in a Digitally Connected World,” reflects the urgent need for collective action in addressing global sustainability challenges.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Gilda Maulina, S.AB., M.AB., Chair of the 10th ICISPE, who emphasized ICISPE’s decade-long journey as a trusted space for academic dialogue and its role in promoting interdisciplinary research and inclusive policymaking for effective environmental governance.
In his opening address, Dr. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., Dean of FISIP UNDIP, stated, “This forum is not just an academic exercise; it is a call to dialogue, reflection, and action. ICISPE 2025 aims to foster connections and ideas that extend beyond the conference, shaping just, equitable, and forward-looking approaches to development.”
The keynote session featured Professor Satyajit Bose from Columbia University, USA, who underscored the importance of localized ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing in advancing sustainability goals. He stressed that while global ESG frameworks often overlook local realities, countries like Indonesia must adapt ESG strategies to tackle critical issues such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, and human capital development. Bose called for strong public-private collaboration and long-term investment strategies, emphasizing that localized ESG integration is vital for inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
Alongside Professor Bose, the conference also hosted other distinguished speakers: Professor Tung-Hsiang (Sam) Chou from National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, who discussed “Digital Transformation and Innovation for a Sustainable Future”; Dr. Ellie Martus from Griffith University, Australia, who presented insights on “Metallurgical Coal and the Changing Politics of Climate in the Age of Net Zero”; and Professor Kismartini from Universitas Diponegoro, Indonesia, who explored collaborative governance for sustainable coastal management.
